Principal's Message

Dear Schrum Family,

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year at Schrum Memorial Middle School! As we embark on this journey together, it is an honor to introduce myself as the new principal of Schrum Memorial Middle School.  I am thrilled to begin my 22nd year in education in Hoover Schrum Memorial School District 157.  I have worked in the Calumet City Community for ten years as a teacher at Hoover Elementary, Dean and Assistant Principal at Schrum Memorial Middle School, and Principal in District 156.  I am also a wife and mother of two wonderful children.

At Schrum Memorial Middle School, our mission is to create a nurturing learning environment, where excellence is expected of everyone! Our dedicated staff is committed to fostering a growth mindset, promoting resilience and perseverance, and helping each child grow into young citizens that are critical thinkers and effective communicators.

The parent - school partnership is crucial in ensuring the success of your child and the school community.  Whether through attending parent-teacher conferences, volunteering for school events, or participating in Parent Universities, we encourage you to be a part of our school community.

To help you stay informed and engaged, we will be providing regular updates through our school website, newsletters and Parent Square. Please be sure to check these resources often for important information about upcoming events, school news, and opportunities to get involved.

Please join us at our Community Fair on Saturday, August 24, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The Community Fair is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy fellowship with our district families and staff.  Also, please be aware that Open House will take place on Thursday, September 12 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

In conclusion, welcome back to Schrum, and for those families who may be new to us welcome!  We look forward to building positive and lasting relationships with our families that last for years to come.  Please do not hesitate to contact the main office or any member of the administration team if you have any questions, concerns or feedback throughout the year.  Go Spartans!

Warmest regards,

Mrs. Natalie Bako
