Superintendents Note

Welcome Back Parents, Teachers, and Students!

As we approach the start of a new academic year, I am delighted to announce the opening of a new school year at Hoover Schrum Memorial School.  Our first full day of student attendance is August 15.  All staff members return to school on
August 14, 2023.

We hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits as we welcome you back. It is with great excitement that we continue our journey towards enhancing student and district growth. We remain committed to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment that fosters the development of your child's full potential.  Our first full day of student attendance is August 15.  All staff members return to school on August 14, 2023.

As we embark on this academic year, we are proud to announce our focus on five key attributes that will serve as the foundation for our educational approach. These attributes have been carefully selected to address not only academic success but also the holistic growth of each individual. They are empathy, effective communication, growth mindset, critical thinking, and perseverance.

Empathy lies at the core of our beliefs and values, as we strive to create an inclusive community where every member feels understood, respected, and valued. Our aim is to cultivate a deep sense of empathy within our students, enabling them to develop strong interpersonal skills and an understanding of diverse perspectives.

Effective communication is a vital life skill that we are dedicated to developing within our students. We believe that effective communication encompasses not only the ability to express oneself but also active listening and understanding, which will be equip our students to build meaningful relationships, and articulate their thoughts and ideas confidently and with ease.

A growth mindset is indispensable for students' long-term success. We encourage our students to embrace challenges, view failures as growth opportunities, and persist despite setbacks. By nurturing a growth mindset, we empower our students to continuously learn, adapt, and become resilient individuals who strive for self-improvement while celebrating their achievements along the way.

Critical thinking is an essential skill in the ever-evolving world we live in. We aim to equip our students with the ability to analyze, evaluate, and solve problems creatively and independently. Through thought-provoking discussions, engaging projects, and interactive learning experiences, we can foster a culture of critical thinking.

Perseverance is the key to unlocking the potential that lies within each student. We teach our students the importance of resilience, determination, and dedication. By instilling a sense of perseverance, we believe in building a solid foundation for our students' future endeavors.

As we embark on this exciting journey together, we encourage parents, teachers, and students to actively participate in exploring and cultivating these attributes. Together, we can create an enriching educational experience that prepares our students to become responsible and compassionate citizens of the world.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all parents, teachers, and students for your continued support and partnership. We are confident that by focusing on these attributes, we will lay the groundwork for a successful and fulfilling school year.

Warm regards,

Dwayne Evans, Ed.D.
