Each year the Hoover-Schrum School District 157 Board of Education honors our first responders with a breakfast. We want to give thanks to the police and firefighters for the fantastic job they do to protect the community. It takes a special kind of person to care for others when they don't have to. These people rise to the call of duty every time they walk through the doors at work. Some of them have their lives taken to save others. We want you to know that without you, the world we live in would not be the same.
This year’s 9th Annual Police and Firemen’s breakfast included breakfast along with performances from the students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The students expressed their appreciation though skits, poems and songs. After the performances, the school board members gave all the first responders (including our police officers that protect our school) a gift to show our appreciation. Furthermore, a special tribute was given to the new Chief of Police for Calumet City, Christopher Fletcher. The presentation consisted of kind words from Mrs. Tonya Reed (board secretary), plaque (for the wonderful achievement), a gift (for recognition) and a cake (to celebrate his achievement).
The poem below expresses how we feel about our First Responders:
We thank you for your strength that exceeds any measure
We thank you for having the courage to run towards danger so others can be safe
We thank you for showing us what it means to put others first
We thank you for your bright light in the darkest times
We hope that today and every day you feel that you are loved and supported
We thank you for those lives you have saved and changed in the community you protect
THANK YOU FIRST RESPONDERS FOR ALL YOU DO!!!
